My First Charcoal Artworks

On 28 March 2009, in Beauty and Creativity, by Garrett Daun

Today I completed a series of charcoals. I had never used them before today.

Special thanks to E.J. Gold from the IDHHB and GorebaggTV….a Real Can’t-Monster Slayer…

My fingers got raw from smudging on the paper…

Leave me comments with what you like, what sucks, and where to go next.

Also, a very limited amount of these will be for sale, framed and signed. Drop me a line to let me know you are interested. I will be sending out emails with more information.

Wow, thanks folks, for all the great comments. I will be doing more charcoals this weekend, and framing some of them I have already done in order to put them up at a couple places in town. Yes, Meg, I think Sheila wants to go over some of the charcoal principles too. It is a very little bit of teaching and a hell of a lot of practice. Very fun. I can tell you the materials to get, etc.

Anyway, thanks again for all the great comments.

If y’all are interested in specific pieces, let me know and we can work something out.

    Take care,

    -Garrett

I always have a hard time finding the comment button here. Happy to have found it!

Very interesting, strange, evocative, peculiar, emotive, curious, exploratory artwork there! It appears to me you like to draw squigglies and ovular shapes. I especially appreciate the pieces where you used contrast with the charcoal, the directions and depth of the lines, variety of shape and clear ideas! Though the wild squiggly ones really have something to them as well!
Looking forward to seeing your progress as you continue this work!

That cat kinda freaks me out there watching me write this comment. it breathes sort of heavily. anyway, nice charcoals. I missed the workshop due to a craniosacral therapy study group and building a new compost bin date at my house with a friend. can you teach me a thing or two or give me an overview of what you learned? seems like the sort of thing that would help me get over my perfectionism when i do art.
